We are thrilled to announce a series of exciting events taking place this November for the BDA program! From learning about career interests to getting 1:1 advice from important delegates, we are excited to aid in the continuous growth for students in this program! Here is a preview of what’s to come:
Black Diplomat’s Academy Mentorship Program
This past September we launched our highly anticipated Mentorship part of our curriculum for the 2023 cohort! This 12 week program will foster professional growth, enhance specific skills, and provide guidance and support by pairing mentees with experienced mentors who will help them navigate their career journey in the diplomat field while making and maintaining connections as well.
The BDA Mentorship program will include many important individuals in the diplomatic field who will help pave the way to success for our students. Such individuals include:
Sabine Nolke - Retired Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands; matched with Abigail Campbell and Edynne Grand-Pierre
Chase Kelliher - Junior Officer for Global Affairs Canada and BDA Alumna; matched with Bruce Ruzima
Honourable Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard, of Nova Scotia; matched with De’Ann Edwards
Dr. Gaynel Curry - Independent Expert Member of the UN Permanent Forum of People of African Descent; matched with Samukelisiwe Ngwenya
The program will run from September to December 2023, and will consist of a minimum of 1 hour weekly check-ins with the mentor and mentee to discuss career guidance, and support to build and expand the mentee’s professional network. Mentors and mentees will also focus on building professional relationships while also establishing and upholding the pillar of confidentiality and trust.
